Over the Mouth of the Falls
Johnston Canyon
Banff National Park, AB
2010
Facing the lower falls of Johnston Canyon head on is one thing.
Hiking past the view of the front to continue along the stream brings you to this.
Sometimes looking back gives you a whole new view you never realized, however beautiful or dangerous.

Silver Bells
Baille Ard Nature Trail
Sydney, NS
2022
Baille Ard has ample space and interesting trails but the way the water cycled through melt and freeze to create these little wonders stole the show that day. No matter how often you tore your gaze from one group of them,
another would soon appear, more elaborate and memorizing.

Be Like Water
Horseshoe Falls
Niagara Falls, ON
2015
I was blessed to see this on a near-daily basis for two years of my life. The human meaning behind this wonder of the world translates to power, beauty, adaptation
and fearless self-disclosure.
The image has a soft quality but the reality,
as we all know, is anything but.

Winding Down
French River Provincial Park
Sudbury, ON
2010
Imagine a week-long canoe trek along 120 km of Canadian waterways: tiny rock islands jotting the rivers and lakes; cottages lining the shorelines, a mix of showers and burns; portaging, rowing and coasting. It was quite a time.

Breathe
Tew's Falls Conservation Area
Dundas, ON
2016
These trails could easily boast year-long respect for its views.
Autumn was a great time to visit. The colours were clearly one reason.
The loss of some leaves opened up views to other parts of the trail.
The lookout at the end of the trail gazing down at the tracks was a beautiful ending. Think Morant's curve, but Ontario.

Waiting Patiently
Erb's Road
Phillipsburg, ON
2017
I couldn't help but see this solitary tree like a person stripped of their protection and warmth... patiently hoping against hope for the return of spring.
Maybe a little depressing but there's an inherent strength and resilience by its mere presence: weathered but still standing.

Our Farthest Reach
Viewed from Stockton Hill
Winona, MN
2010
Call this one a really far away shot of a landscape.
It was also quite satisfying developing this photo.

Beautifully Battered Buttereau
Cabot Trail
Petit Étang, NS
2022
It "only" took two years living on the Island to get over to this side. Reminded me of my first visit in 2010 but better: this time it was filled with a sense of companionship, meaning, and self-awareness. It was defined by freedom, not bound to a lifestyle or points of view of another's choosing.
Before, this place was like an escape. Now it's home.

Deep Water Cove
Eleventh St.
Glace Bay, NS
2022
After hurricane Fiona (my first bona fide hurricane),
there was plenty of damage;
mostly roofs blown away and damage caused by trees having been toppled over by wind, age and bad health. Other pines would start being affected by air-borne disease and turn yellow. Still not sure how they'll fare.
Genuine curiosity brought me out a different direction on this walk, witnessing this modest but truly east coast sight.

The Hand of God
Moque Head Trailhead
Main-à-Dieu, NS
2021
A little fishing village on the east side of the Island. Clearly a quiet little gem. I'm looking forward to spending more time at the boardwalk along the shore here.
